ADA Camp Aspire is an acronym for “Always Sharing Priceless, Inspirational, Rewarding Experiences.” The main goal of the program at ADA Camp Aspire is to allow campers the ability to feel at ease and “accepted” in a community where having diabetes is the rule, not the exception. Ou campers learn to understand diabetes and the process of self-management, under skilled and continuous medical supervision. It is the hope of the staff that these children go home feeling more self-confident, self-reliant and having gained the knowledge they need to live successful, full lives with diabetes. We want kids to leave camp feeling empowered and being able to say, “I went to camp and had fun!” Many of these children come to camp not knowing any other people with diabetes, especially other kids like themselves. There are friendships made which last a lifetime! For more information about ADA Camp Aspire, contact campsupport@diabetes.org

Camp Kandu, held twice a year at the Twin Lakes Conference Center in Florence, MS, offers children with diabetes, as well as their parents, siblings, and even their friends, the opportunity to have fun while learning to take charge of diabetes. The camp is free for children with diabetes, and parents and siblings without diabetes pay only a small registration fee that varies based on whether they stay overnight or not. (We offer overnight lodging in the cabins on Friday or Saturday night for families who have to travel longer distances). Do note that all children are required to have a parent or guardian stay on-site all day if they are under age 18. Activities include a karate icebreaker and games, arts & crafts, relay games & volleyball (sometimes kickball), and then we give the kids free time with their parents before dinner (most people canoe on the lake during this time), and of course a hay-less \\\"hay-ride\\\"" over to the campfire at the end of the evening."

LCM’s programs match the needs and abilities of the children we serve so they are given the chance to “be all they can be”. Our dedicated counselors are always on hand to instruct and give caring guidance to our campers, but we find that it is our amazing children themselves who play the largest part in supporting and encouraging each other. LCM is a special place, a unique haven for children in today’s fast-paced world. Here campers laugh, learn, and live together as they enjoy the pleasures of summertime friendship and fun. They build skills and character, and create remarkable friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

A diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes changes the life of a child forever. Days filled with school, sports, and activities are quickly replaced by blood tests, insulin injections, and carbohydrate calculations. Every step required to manage their diabetes is a step away from what children see as “normal.” But at Camp Sweeney, Type 1 diabetes is normal. And when diabetes disappears, every camper can show what makes them special, not what makes them different.

TLC's program for children who have type-1 diabetes began in the mid-1970's under the general supervision of Dr. Luther Travis. For the last 35 years, the program has thrived under the expertise of Dr. Stephen Ponder. Visit the web-site for Summer 2023 Event Schedule & Changes http://www.lionscamp.com/become-a-camper.html#TLC2U The program is organized into one-week sessions and is especially helpful for newly-diagnosed campers, who are granted priority registration until April 15th of each year. To qualify, children must be between the ages of 8-15, be a Texas resident and have a primary diagnoses of Type-1 diabetes. The format for the schedule will consist of a Tues-Wed, one-night stay for those who prefer a shorter event during the week, followed by a Friday-Sunday, two night stay, for those who prefer a weekend. As you will note, the schedule has been shortened and spread out so that the staff can clean and sanitize between sessions.
