DTreat - Great Success East and West in 2010

DECA's young adult program, DTreat was held at two locations this year, thanks to a grant from the Medtronic Foundation and additional funding from Abbott Diabetes Care.  Young adults gathered to discuss important issues facing this vulnerable population including health insurance, relationships, diabetes management & new technologies, pregnancy & sexuality issues, alcohol, and finding a diabetes care provider.  Most importantly, the participants and DLead team, formed lasting relationships that will be maintained through the DTreat Facebook page.  Visit it today and become part of the DTreat group!

DTreat East was held at Northeastern University Boston, May 28 - 30, 2010

DTreat West was held at UC Berkeley San Francisco Bay Area, June 4 - 6, 2010

Diabetes Camp Leadership Development Council "DLead"

Thanks to the generosity of the Medtronic Foundation, DECA enthusiastically supports initiatives that  enhance opportunities for young adults through the Diabetes Camp Leadership Development Council (DLead).

"DLead" develops educational programs for young adults with diabetes and leadership training initiatives for diabetes camps internationally in concert with the mission of the Diabetes Education and Camping Association.

The DLead Council is a group of young adult diabetes leaders from across North America who were selected to plan and implement DLEAD initiatives.  Council members include:

  • Lara Abramson - Camp Morton/Maxwell (Nova Scotia, Canada)
  • Jonathan Davidson - Pennsylvania
  • Andrew Gaul - Camp Carowanis (Quebec, Canada)
  • Jennifer Goerzen - Bearskin Meadow Camp (California)
  • Jen Hanson - Ontario (Canada)
  • Meagan Hennenfent - No Limits Diabetes (Indiana)
  • Lisa Henning - Camp Hodia (Idaho)
  • Sara Latimer - Camp Seale Harris (Alabama)
  • Lucas Morgan - Camp Setebaid (Pennsylvania)
  • Ally Paschal - Camp STIX (Washington)
  • Krystle Samai - California

Young adults participated in workshops that dealt with issues such as health insurance, finding diabetes care providers; partying; eating on a budget; diabetes management and research updates and more.

I would also like to know the start and end times specifically for Dtreat east. I'm near Boston, but do not know my schedule for may yet. Thanks.
Jess

Jess, did you get a response that DTreat will start at 4 PM on Friday and end at about 2 PM on Sunday?

I was wondering if you had somewhat of schedule set up yet...such as what time it will start and end. I would very much like to go, but need to figure out if I'll be able to fingure out financing the travel to and from. Basically, I want to know the start times and end times for the Berkeley DTreat 2010 in order to book travel. If you know what they are the information would be very helpful. Thanks so much!

DTreat starts Friday at 4 PM for registration and ends Sunday at 2 PM.
