Membership and Benefits

On January 1, 2010, DECA will institute new membership categories that give our various constituencies benefits tailored to their needs.  We are excited to offer our Camp Members benefits as never before, and to give our other Members access to important camp resources, events and expertise.  Please take a look at the Membership categories below, then you will need to do the following:

  1. Visit the "How to Join" Page
  2. Fill out a Membership Application - Members Tab, click "Membership Application"
  3. Register to use the website - Members Tab, click  "Member User Registration"
  4. If you are a Camp Member, complete updated camp information - Camp Directory tab - "Add or Edit Entry"


Camp Membership

Available to camps primarily serving those affected by diabetes.  Cost will be determined by calculating “camper days “ - the number of campers in a camp session multiplied by the number of days that they attend the camp session (i.e., if a camp has 70 campers for 14 days, they will have 980 camper days).

Camp Member Benefits Include:

  1. An unlimited number of free memberships for your staff (or volunteers) and parents 18 and over as approved by the Camp Director
  2. Unrestricted access to all features of the DECA website (by validated password for your camp), including downloads, logo, PowerPoint presentations, video training programs:
    1. Leadership Essentials staff training video program by Dr. Chris Thurber. 
      For a camp with 50 staff, this would immediately save you 400 (50 x $8 per staff)
  3. DECA’s own diabetes management training videos (coming in 2011)
  4. Inclusion on the Industry Partners database that ensures you will receive donated supplies and materials for your campers
  5. Partner opportunities with local Lions Clubs based on the agreement DECA has reached with Lions International that encourages camps and Lions to work together to expand and enhance diabetes camping programs
  6. Access to shared best practices on the website and downloadable camp resources, such as “Diabetes 101” and “The Diabetes Camp Survival Guide,” plus manuals shared by other camp members
  7. Access to “DCAT” - the Diabetes Camp Assistance Team - experts who can help you with issues facing your camping program.
  8. Rights to use the DECA logo on promotional materials, indicating that your camp is a member of the world’s only professional diabetes camping organization
  9. Monthly newsletters, inclusion in all notifications of exciting new opportunities, priority and restricted access to new resources and so much more

Camp Membership Fees for 2010
Fee will be based on “camper days” (# of campers in a session X # of days in session)

FEE Structure for Camper Days

$50       1-249
$100     250-999
$175     1,000-1,999
$250     2,000-2,999
$325     3,000-3,999
$400     4,000-4,999
$475     5,000-5,999
Additional $75 per each additional 1,000

If you total camper days is greater than or equal to 2,000 campers, then you will receive a 50% discount to your camp membership fee. This amount is already calculated in the application and will be reflected accordingly when you are requested to submit your type of payment.

Camp Staff Member

Camp Staff Members are those who are current staff or volunteers with a Member Camp.  If your Camp is listed in our Camp Directory and you are a current staff member or volunteers of a Member Camp, then you must register on our site for your username and password.  Camp Staff Member can be found under the main menu HOME tab. Click here to register.

Camp Staff Members must also submit a MEMBER APPLICATION (FREE) so we know what camp you are affiliated with. Click here to submit your APPLICATION.

Life Membership


Life Membership is for those individuals who wish to support DECA's important mission and receive the benefits of membership.  Life Members pay a one-time fee of $400.  They receive all DECA benefits, including unrestricted access to the "Members Only" features of the DECA website and a discount when attending conferences.


Regular Membership


Designed for individuals who may not be affiliated with a camp, this $25 annual membership comes with unrestricted access to the “Members Only” section of the website, receive newsletters and many other benefits.

Affiliate Camp Membership


The Affiliate Camp Membership is for those camps that are not primary diabetes camps.  The fee structure is based on camper days of the children with diabetes.  Affiliate camp membership will include a primary membership for the Camp Director and secondary membership for the Camp Nurse.  Membership sill include other Camp Member benefits except they will not be included on the Industry Partners database, will not have access to the "Leadership Essentials" library and will only have an affiliate listing (no detailed information) on the website Camp Directory.


DECA Friend


This is a free membership that includes the monthly newsletter, as well as email notification of events such as DTreat, Professional Conferences, and other sponsored events.
