Getting ready to go on your first canoe ride is an awesome experience at camp. Especially when it is with your new bunk mates.

These four young ladies at Camp Conrad Chinnock are about to hike a mile to a beautiful mountain lake at Camp Conrad Chinnock in California to learn about safely canoeing with their friends. After a long day of hiking and canoeing they will end the day with good old fashion hot dogs at the lake as the sun sets over the western mountains.

Canoeing at diabetes camp is just like canoeing anywhere except that we make sure that everything you need is right there with your paddles! Need to check your blood glucose? We have meters and strips in water tight storage. Need a snack? We have that too!

Diabetes camp thinks of everything for you – it’s almost like a vacation from diabetes because everyone has diabetes and is doing the same thing that you are doing. Checking blood sugars, treating lows, taking insulin, eating snacks, counting carbs. We know the lingo, so come on in, the paddling’s great!
