Testing their endurance, the nine campers and four staff carefully make their way across rocky ledges as they continue their pursuit of the Mt. Whitney peak. Managing diabetes is really important during strenuous hikes.
Campers checked blood glucose often and ate snacks regularly to keep blood sugars in range. Expert staff helped make pump basal and bolus adjustments and food intake to balance the need for insulin and glucose. What a thrill to make it to the summit after such hard work!
As the group came together at base camp (Bearskin Meadow Camp) to embark on the life-changing journey, it was apparent that they were soon-to-be a tight knit team that quickly bonded and prepared with detail for the ensuing adventure. Before long, they were out on the trail with fifty-pound packs, an undying sense of dedication, and enough diabetes supplies to get them through to the summit and beyond.
