Nova Diabetes Care is proud to sponsor DECA 2012! Nova Diabetes Care is the manufacturer of the Nova Max® Plus™ and Nova Max Link™ glucose monitors and strips. Nova Diabetes Care is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nova Biomedical, manufacturer of StatStrip®, a leading glucose meter for point-of-care glucose testing in the hospital setting. Managing glucose at camp may present unique challenges. Camp is an exciting experience, but simply being away from home can cause stress that can impact glucose management. Changes in diet at camp, eating schedule, and increased levels of activity can also attribute to abnormal glucose levels. As part of its sponsorship, Nova Diabetes Care would like to attend diabetes camps to offer educational material and free Nova Max Plus Glucose/Ketone monitors and strips. Nova Max Plus is an accurate, fast and no coding meter for glucose testing that can also be used to monitor blood ketone levels on sick-days and whenever glucose is elevated, as recommended by the American Diabetes Association. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is the most common cause of hospitalization and death in children with diabetes. Hospitalizations were shown to be reduced by 50% when ketones were tested in the blood compared to ketones tested in urine.
